On Wednesday we went miniature golfing.

Today we went to Miami. First we stopped at the beach at Lake Worth

and then went to the Old Navy Outlet in Miami. Look who's wearing jeans!

On Monday we went to the driving range.

Of course there are no pictures of Mama hitting the ball.

In the afternoon we went to Jo Ann Fabrics and bought supplies.

Atara's bead loom and project

Sophia's hemp cocker, all made up.

This picture was taken just outside my parents' back door. Nice, huh?

Cool granny
You are a masterful knitter! I don't know how you
got this result, but what the hell... Enjoy
your title, and try selling some of your
"unvented" patterns- you may make
enough for that bundle of qiviut you've been
drooling over...

Are you a knitter?

Started work on a hat/cowl for the Greentree project. B finally called the local sheep growers--they just dumped the fleeces. :-( They've told us where the fleeces are, though, so I'll go next week and see if there's anything there to play with.

Still have to weave in the ends on S's vest--she decided that she wanted the 8" cowl after all. Been going crazy on Ebay -- bought a bunch of Spin-Offs, some cotton, some cotton seeds, some Althea (hollyhock) seeds, an inkle loom. At this rate, I'll have no room left for purchases when I get to the States! Dyed some more rolags for T's felted bag--two each in Lemonade and Orange. I love KoolAid!

Finishing time! No, not just finals (the kids', not mine). I've finished several major projects at work, S finished the pillow top she was working on, I've finished S's vest for next year (aside from the seams and sewing in ends--I'll crochet the seams so if she outgrows it, I can add panels in under the arms. I finished my Spin-Off skein and sent that in. B finished off the Torah that's been sitting at the client's for a year and tomorrow is the dedication--right in the middle of a big protest march. Oh, joy...

MerinoNo real fiber activity. :-( Yesterday was PTA day . Did a little SIP on the tzitziot and finished off one ply (I hope). Today started the next ply while S was at the orthodontist, and probably will do some more tonight when we take S to next year's high school for a gibushon and then B goes to a client to do some quick work. I think people like my little lacewood Spindizzie as much as they like watching me do something "strange".

Happy Lag B'Donut, everyone!

Friday, May 16, 2003

Wednesday was the world' shleppiest day (TM). B went to buy parchment, I returned the wheelchair Mom borrowed from Ezer MiTzion. Did some shopping--bought stone donuts to make spindles. Had an idea for a supported toothpick spindle, but upon exectution it was so light that I could only get backspin. Got two carryons for all our upcoming trips to America. Got dowels for the stone donuts. Taught an Excell tutorial. Went to the gym. Went grocery shopping. Got home at 11 pm, exhausted, so no fiber pursuits that day.

Yesterday I combed some of my found fiber, put together a spindle using the larger of the donuts, a chopstick, and a hook from B's toolkit, and spun a little while T had a bunch of friends over to watch Harry Potter 1.

I think I'll just do some more combing and carding today and leave the dyeing for next week. Have to work on S's vest and emptying my distaffs so that when the Tunis I'm being sent for the Spin-Off skein challenge on the Spindlers list.

With the help of the Spindlitis group, I washed some fleece that I found lying out by the grocery yesterday.

Before washing:

Soaking:

Almost done!

Drying--it's so much nicer now.

Tomorrow's tasks: buy another cat comb so I can comb the wool up. Thursday or Friday--dye day!

She's home!

Introducing to the world--Princess Coco, aka Shoko!

Sunday, December 15, 2002

It's been one of those days. It was a fast--bed. Got a full day's work in by 1:30--good. We got lost on the way to the pet shelter--bad. Found out what the mistake was in the directions--good. Got into a car accident 200 meters from the shelter--mucho bad. (Two lanes of traffic stopped politely to let us make a left. The jerk who was passing everyone on the right didn't stop until our bumper stopped him.)

Found a kitten--good. Turned out it had fungii--bad. Found another kitten--good. It had a bum leg--bad. Found a third kitten--good. It's other leg wasn't good--bad. Finally just straight out asked: "Do you have any healthy cats?" They showed me adult cats--not what we wanted. Then they showed us a black furball who was asleep. "She's just been spayed." Excellent, since for religious reasons we can't spay her, but if she's already fixed... But (and there's always a but, isn't there?) she hasn't had her rabies shot, and they don't want to give her one the same day she's been fixed. So we had them put our name on her card and on Thursday we're going back to get her.

Tomorrow it's off the the insurance adjusters. Non-stop fun, that's my life!

Funniest thing I've heard all week: On Radio Kol Chai, "The Ketchup Song" in Yiddish.
"Ay, ay, ay, mit a bissle krechtzin, oy, oy, oy, oy, oy..."

My first yarn! Spun from white wool on a student spindle, both from Countrywool.

And my latest fiber purchase--soy silk from Spinners Notebook. It's much prettier than this, but I it's shiny as real silk, and I hadn't counted on that.

A picture of Princey

Sunday we're going down to Tnu L'chayot L'chyot, one of the animal shelters, and we'll get ourselves a new furball. We'll keep him inside until they're finished killing the local cats, though.

At least I found out this wasn't another one of the Regional Council's dirty tricks. A cat bit a neighbor and then turned up dead of rabies under his house and the neighbor's in the hospital. That family has no luck--it was his sister's Sheva Brachot guests the terrorist wounded back in the early fall.

Thursday, December 12, 2002

Today the local vet came around (after two years when you could never find him on his appointed days, so no pet could get vaccinated) and claimed he found a cat dead of rabies. They took all the local pets off to be killed, including our Princey. Interestingly enough, no attempt seems to have been made to catch any of the stray cats around. Soph and I smell a rat here, but that won't do our poor cat any good anymore.

I missed him so much tonight as I lowered the window shade and for the first time in years didn't have to chase him off the ledge. And when, after dinner, I threw out the scraps instead of going to the door and calling "here cat." B tried to tell them what had happened over the phone, since they gave us all of two hours' notice, but he used euphemisms and both P and A thought he was just going to sleep; they didn't realize he'd be murdered.

They made me catch Princey for them. 3 times. Really sounds like they were worried about rabies, doesn't it? One day I'd like to learn the real story behind this and who was behind this.

Goodbye, Princey Charming. You were a good cat.

Oh, wow--it's been months since I posted. If I can start doing this on a regular basis, I'll publish the URL. Otherwise, it'll be writing into the wind.

Last night we had a Chanukah party at Aunt Rae and Uncle Arnold's new apartment. I kept waiting for all their glass and ceremaics to go crashing, but as of when I left at 10-ish, only the ceramic lion table got chipped--NOT BY MY KIDS!!! Of course I didn't take pictures--just because I finally got batteries for the digital camera doesn't mean I have to use it....

S is still waiting to hear from high schools--a little waiting is good to pull her down a notch. Too bad she needs to come down two.

A's turning into a teen ager. Now if I could only get her to stop picking her zits.

Another killed last night. OK, now the bullet-proof buses aren't safe and the new bullets will pierce ceramic bullet-proof vests. Tanks can be exploded--so what's left for safe transport?

Ate too much chocolate yesterday and stayed up too late watching Eight is Enough--comfort food and comfort TV. At least I got 12 rows in on the Heir's sweater.

Have my music lesson today and am *so* not ready.

On email, people are talking about the Oscars. Who cares? I'm making up my Pesach shopping list and hoping I live through tomorrow.

S is being a typical teenaged brat. One year and 5 months until she goes to dorm school--if she and I make it that long.

Have to recode MSWord HTML code again for 8 hours. Grr.... Got the office floor clean.

Sunday, March 24, 2002

One dead today. Not someone I know--but I left Neve Tzuf when she would have been 12. Rabbi Blass's daughter was on the bus and interviewed (she did a good job). Glad she wasn't hurt.

Decided my diet has room to include a piece of chocolate for each person killed. Comfort food.

Spent all day fixing *&*(^()*^Microsoft Word HTML. Oh, well, it's a living.

The girls are in Ariel--I'm worried, since today's killing happened through the windows of a "bullet-proof" bus.

Cleaned out under the china cabinet and above the sink. I may be able to get Pesach organized this year without killing someone.

Knitted the collar and first 4 rows of the yoke on the Heir's sweater. Glad I have until the summer to do this.
